Medical Referrals

Several insurance plans require that you have a referral in place before seeing a specialist for any reason. Generally these types of plans require you to select a specific primary care clinic and/or a primary care physician. You are required to see your primary care physician first, and he or she will determine if specialty care is needed. If a specialist is needed, you must see a specialist within a defined network.
