Coumadin is an anti-coagulant (blood-thinner). It helps reduce the clots from forming in the blood. Your doctor may have placed you on Coumadin for various reasons. Coumadin is used to treat blood clots in the legs or lungs and clots associated with atrial fibrillation or heart-valve replacements. You may also be taking Coumadin because of a history of stroke, knee, or hip replacement.
It is very important to have your blood tests (Protime and INR) done as ordered by your provider to ensure the dosgae of medication you are taking is correct.
