Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is the use of laser energy to produce long-term hair reduction. The light is taken up by a desired target, which in-turn causes inflammation, this then sends a signal to the targeted area to “rest”.
Great Plains Clinic offers laser hair removal using the Candela GentleLASE system. This technology protects the skin with Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) TM by emitting a cool burst of cryogen along with the controlled amount of therapeutic heat.
Normally, 5 - 6 sessions are administered at 4 - 8 week intervals. Some maintenance treatments may be needed to keep all the hair away in a given area. Your sessions may last a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area being treated.
In most cases, there are no side effects associated with the procedure. However, side effects may include bruising, redness, blistering, burns, lightening or darkening or the skin, and/or swelling in the treated area. These changes may persist for some time, but they are almost always temporary. Permanent side effects such as changes in skin color or scarring are rare.
After the treatments, avoiding sun exposure is very important. Using abrasive skin cleansers or scrubbing the treated area is not recommended.
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. However, some companies will cover the treatment of disfiguring birthmarks or skin conditions. Please contact your insurance carrier for information on your coverage.
